Hi All. Greeting from Bali

My name is Yoga. The founder of Visual Bali and Light & Love photography. Some clients asking why our website is change drastically these days. Here is the story. I founded this wedding division at 2009 . We start with dreams, we grow with struggle, we rise until reach this point with all the up and down.

Until 2017, we still stick with our old style : Timeless style. What is this style ? basically this is natural colour style and mixed with black and white photo. Why is this style called timeless ? Because anytime you see this photo will still look good. I’ve been in professional photo and video business since 2003. We start at the early digital photo and video era. All those years, I see many colour trends in photography changing every years.  And this style is beyond any trend. We still exist in this business because of this style.

My late grandfather was a photographer. He’s a war veteran and later become journalist for Bali Post, the oldest newspaper at Bali. I use to see him working with his old analog Nikon FM camera since childhood. Developing and processing analog 35mm film.

My father also photographer and videographer. He graduate at PFN (Produksi Film Negara) at late 80s. State Film Production Company, abbreviated as PFN is a state-owned Indonesian film production company. PFN is one of the pioneers in Indonesian film industry at the time when it is formed. Sometimes he bring me to an adventure while he make film project. Since kid, I saw him editing video until midnight. Somehow I think photography and videography is already within my blood from the very beginning.

At 2017, I open my grandfather’s old briefcase. I found a lot of his photography work. It’s bring back memories.  I love those pictures, so timeless. A photograph is a pause button of life. In my spare time, I open a private photography class and teach my student this : a photo will be priceless after more than 30 years. Seeing my grandpa photos make me remember why I choose to follow his steps to become photographer. I watch a good movie “kodachrome”. I love the quote from Benjamin Ryder: It’s a matter of time. We all afraid about time when all gone and everything disappear. It’s our job as photographer to preserve it. We taking pictures to stop time. Yes, I want to stop time with my photograph. Then my spirit as wedding photographer rise again

I decide to buy some analog 35mm and medium format film camera. I always buy some films when I’m travelling to Singapore. My favourite film is professional film like Fujifilm 400h and kodak portra, some everyday film like kodak gold and ektar, also some black and white film from ilford. All these things brings back old memory of my childhood. Some friends ask me why I’m step backward to film again. The point is to have fun with the medium. To get a particular look out of the box instead of using some VSCO filters. To be able to use wide latitude. To have some real grain present in shadows. To be able to use some old gear without 20 pages of menu settings. To use old compact cameras To keep the 24-36 frames limit in mind. I start to shoot some weddings with film and falling in love with film colour again.

My wife love fujifilm 400h colour. It’s softness and airy looks always amaze me. She’s also a wedding photographer and my shooting partner in many weddings. So then I start a new instagram account called ovelia wedding based on this colour for her. I love kodak portra colour with it’s moody, browny, and darker look. Then I start another new instagram account called eternia wedding based on this colour. I will re-edit and re-upload a lot of our previous wedding with these styles. I’m a family man. I love to takes photos of family. I will apply this style to my family photo division. You can check my instagram for family photo here
